I think about humor a lot. I also take it for granted a lot, until I come upon someone in my daily life who has none – who knows neither how to accept it or express it. And I feel the worst for those people. What must their life be like without laughter? And is it life that killed their humor, or humor that killed their life?
This persona that is Felicity would probably like you to think she’s always serious, brooding, ever-sultry… a simmering sexpot with come hither eyes who only smiles when presented with a cock. I don’t equate funny with sex. You can’t be sexy while laughing at (or telling) a dumb joke-at least, a woman can’t. Yet humor is the first thing that draws me to a male. Funny men are sexy. This is just me, in my mind, how I perceive these weird roles and constraints we place on ourselves as a society.
But then I have to immediately rethink that. Because what connects people more quickly than humor? How easy is it to laugh with a new friend? What about “breaking the ice?” And if you can find that someone with whom you laugh so easily, who ‘gets’ you… I think that’s my definition of ‘you get me.’ I mean, you get my dumb jokes. And you completely understand when I dissolve into giggles for no reason. You know that no one laughs at me more than I do, and that the oddest things will tickle me. You get that I will as easily laugh at intellectual humor and irony as I will at fart jokes and The Simpsons. Funny is funny.
Funny is sexy.
Humor has helped me cope with a lot. And while I have days when I can’t laugh, I’m happy to say they are few and far between. Even when I’m in the pits, I can usually find something that will bring a smile. Or someone. (Yes, Kat, I’m totally looking at you right now 😉 )
Here are a few quotes from others who see the importance of a good laugh. Do you have a favorite humor quote? If so, leave it for me in the comments; I’d very much like to laugh with you!

Humor is, I think, the subtlest and chanciest of literary forms. It is surely not accidental that there are a thousand novelists, essayists, poets or journalists for each humorist. It is a long, long time between James Thurbers. ~Leo Rosten
