To scream and cry and die inside

To live this life a twisting lie

To ache with need so long denied

To wait on you for answers why

On why the sun still hangs on high

And why the seas still give their tides

On where the rainbows go to hide

And why the spring so quickly dies –

You say to wait, to dry my eyes

You say you love me for all time

You say my kisses give you life

You say you live just for my sighs-

So where within me hides that light

That came alive beneath your eyes

It guttered, died, lies cold inside

This hurting shell, no longer mine

Where to lie and cry and twist and try

To find a path, a way, a light-

Is not unlike that death I died

A thousand times before you.
